Calming Horses through the benefits of Tellington TTouch. A Premarin foal who had no prior handling, had no reactions within a few minutes.
Part 2 of 3

Day 2, breakfast
Roulette walked into the stall today and quietly began to eat. Her eye was soft. I was easily able to walk over to her and begin to stroke off of her body with the wands following the contours of her body. I was able to begin stroking on the body with two wands and no reactions within a few minutes!
For today’s session I had added an ace bandage wrapped around the butt end of one of the wands to create a softer area for stroking and TTouches. I used the wrapped butt end of the 4’ stiff wand to begin to do circular TTouches all over her body, chest, sides of her neck up to her poll, shoulders, back, belly, butt, and down her legs. She also let me work all around the base of her ears in this manner. Then I was able to continue to work up her ear with the padded wand and then I started to move the padded wand on her cheek. She seemed to like all of this with her eye softening and her breathing slowing down. Once again, Catherine was amazed at how quiet she was and how readily she accepted the stroking.
In this manner I was also able to begin to work the ear more fully. With one wand, I supported the back of her ear to hold it steady. I began to roll the padded wand along her ear and do circles on her ear with the padded wand.
Note in the picute below that the ace bandage is wrapped on the butt end of the wand for padding. With the padded wand I am doing Circular TTouches and rolling the padded area very gently on her ear.
Once I had been stroking Roulette and doing circles with the padded wand I was easily able to work my hand down the wand to her neck. Then I used TTouches directly on her neck. She did not flinch, tighten up or have any startle reactions whatsoever. This was another big success.
I did some Zigzag TTouches with my hand on her sides, shoulder, back, and neck. I continued along the crest of her neck, up to her poll and to the base of her ears with no reactions, calm breathing and a soft eye. I used some Lying Leopards Circles with about 2-3 pressure along these areas. I was able to work along her face and cheeks with my hand directly on her face.
Once she was done eating she quietly moved to eat hay on the other side of the stall. I was able to work with her on the left again. I began with the padded wand and did the same process on this side. However, once I got to the upper side of her neck using the padded wand and circles, she flung her head up and her eye got very big. I had not been able to work this side of her neck the previous day. Her left eye looked very worried. The shape of her left eye was also very different from her right eye. The right eye was smaller and not so bugged out.
I went back to stroking her body with both wands since this had become familiar and comfortable for her. After a few minutes of stroking with her remaining calm I went back to stroke the upper neck. This time she remained completely calm as if nothing scary had occurred! This was after only a few minutes of stroking in between. I used the wand and stroked her again along her whole body. I ended this session on those positive notes. Once again, the total amount of time spent was about only 20-25 minutes.
Here I am using 2 wands to do Ear Work. The left wand is supporting her ear while I am gently and slowly doing Circular TTouches on her ear with the padded wand. Note her relaxed nature and the softness of her eye.
I was able to work with Roulette one more time while I was visiting. Please come on back to read about what we did next!
