I asked Ibis to share about self-reflection. Here is what he shared with me…
“Listening to your heart is tuning inside, or what humans call self reflection. Listening to your heart is all that is important here. When we waver from our heart and the song that is within each of us we are not tuned in to all that is true for each of us.
What humans call self reflection, I call heart reflection, or listening to my heart and the rhythms and the song that is within. When I listen my heart will speak. Humans, you think a lot and forget that your heart speaks.”
When you think a lot this clouds over the heart so you cannot hear what is deeper inside beyond the chatter, noise, thoughts, worries in your head.
“If all the humans who were in contact with me since I was born had listened to their hearts my life as a racehorse would have been very different. But then, I might not have found Sandy in this lifetime. And so, we all have things we need to learn from our lives.
We each can bring forward what we need to learn. Learning to tune into my own heart has taken time in this lifetime. Tuning in and behaving from my own heart song in a peaceful way continues to be the lesson.”
Ibis paused, and then added, “This is one way to look at my life. Another is that I listened and those around me did not listen to me, or to themselves. I was not able to go along with the human ways and stay true to my own heart song. I was not at peace inside myself. I became unhappy.
My life since Sandy entered many years ago, (28 yrs ago!) has been different than when I was in the racing life. (Ibis is a Thoroughbred who raced on many tracks from ages 2-4.)
Together, we have been learning to listen to our heart songs, and together we have been finding our way. Sometimes we have been together in our ways with each other, and sometimes we have not been in sync.
Sometimes we have been at peace within ourselves and with each other, and other times we have not been at peace. We continue to learn. Be mindful with your animals and each other.
In every situation, we each have wisdom inside our own hearts that needs to be heard.
Listen to your own Heart Song.“
