I first met Ella Bittel at the 30th Anniversary Celebration of Tellington TTouch in 2006. She gave a lecture on Hospice for Animals. When I told her at lunch that my 35 year old horse, Sunny, had recently begun to head downhill and I wasn’t sure how long he had left, she immediately began providing
insights and assistance. Through the next year and a half Sunny continued along his end of life journey. Ella provided invaluable support and education.
We hosted her wonderful Seminar; Sprits In Transition here at One Heart Healing Center. The weekend was powerful, beautiful and inspiring. Everything Ella offered helped me to continue along this end of life roller coaster journey with my sweet Sunny and has been invaluable in my supporting clients who come to me with their animals who are entering into the end of life process. Ella teaches that supporting a dying animal is an art that can be learned. Everyone can benefit greatly from preparing ahead of time, before the actual hospice situation arises. There is so much that most of us do not know about the dying process, what is natural, what to expect and what kinds of things can help us prepare for this time.
Born in Germany, Ella followed her childhood desire to “help animals” by becoming a veterinarian. Now living and working in Arizona and California, Ella
has specialized in holistic modalities for over 20 years, among them veterinary acupuncture and chiropractic, cranio-sacral work, homeopathy, TTOUCH and energy medicine techniques adapted from Donna Eden, including work on the animals aura and chakras. Her experiences with Momo, her dog, passing naturally, and feeling that just like birth, the dying process is of inherent value and an important part of an individual’s journey, led Ella to engage in animal hospice and create a weekend seminar as well as online classes for anyone interested in options in end-of life care for our animal companions. Her vision is that a network develops on a nation- and worldwide scale, where people caring for a dying animal can find support by those who share their passion for hospice care for our animal loved ones. Dr. Bittel graduated from veterinary school in Hanover, Germany in 1994. She is on the advisory board for the NHFP (Nikki Hospice Foundation for Pets).
