During challenging times, how do you ride with the tides?
How do you Find Your Way and navigate
during Times of Change and Upheaval?
What’s been your internal experience when
things are falling apart, tumultuous times of change?
Most people want some kind of change in their lives.
Better health, more fun, more money, a new car,
…peace, satisfaction…
….you want someone to change their behavior….
…your dog, horse or cat to behave differently….
Yet most people do not LOVE upheaval that is often part of change.
The ancient ones understood that in order for change to happen,
things often fall apart in some way.
The symbol for change in Chinese I believe
actually means Crisis in English!.
Sometimes when things around you fall apart,
people want to know the answers; sometimes get impatient,
or even feel a little resistance.
All these are common.
Almost everyone experiences some level of stress or resistance
during these times. It might seem harder to stay connected with
your deeper self, and to listen, really listen to your heart and soul,
and to know your deepest desires during these times.
Usually, these changes mean living life in an entirely, different way.
Last year, my basement flooded during a severe rainstorm.
Four rooms, including carpets, got water logged, and ruined.
The gutters were clogged…even though precautions have
been made for this not to happen!
At the same time, the downstairs bathtub backed
up spewing yucky stuff….and the outdoor drains
to the entrance of my office backed up.
Three significant issues showed up at the same
time. Each needed a separate solution.
I had alot of choices about how to respond and react.
Some were centered, some not so much!
I wasn’t aware on the outside that I wanted change.
But, the internal pipes were clogged – if you look at the metaphors.
Once I was reflecting back, I realized, I had been thinking
alot about moving to California,
and I felt stuck – clogged up about it!
Here are some of the practices I used to help me shift out of the stuck-ness,
and often use in coaching my clients and their animals.
These are five tips to help you navigate,
“ride with the tide” and “go with the flow”:
1) Breath.
It is so simple, and yet not so easy to breathe deep,
breathe into what is happening when you are stressed and
feeling encumbered with all that needs to be done!
Often at these junctures, people look into the future
with all that needs to be done,
and get overwhelmed.
Breathing can help bring you back into the moment and
into your body in a very softening, grounding manner.
“New Beginnings are often disguised as painful endings.” ~ Lao Tzu
2) Patience.
Breathe and find patience for things to unfold.
Sounds easy, not always simple!
“Do you have the patience to wait Till your mud settles and the water is clear?
Can you remain unmoving Till the right action arises by itself?”
~Lao Tzu
3) Center.
Find your center, breath into your center. And continue
to drop down into your center…even when things are not looking up.
“At the center of your being you have the answer;
you know who you are and you know what you want.”
4) Ground.
What helps you find and feel your ground?
Movement is needed for me to find and feel my ground.
From Tai Chi to walking meditations, to riding my horses – even painting,
or doing my Soul Collage Journaling – all of these
help me ground my energy and keep things flowing inside me.
“What is firmly rooted cannot be pulled out.”
5) Go Within.
Deep inside your heart of hearts,
lies the gateway to all that is subtle and wonderful…
Regardless of what appears before you.
“When turmoil rules, go within.”
~ Lao Tzu
Remember that change can become the vehicle
for your “right” destination.
Going deep within can bring you to new territory inside,
with new insights so you can see what is truly needed
beyond the outer turmoil.
Your animals will often reflect your internal world.
Each experience brings this opportunity for reflection,
and deepening, and finding the flow inside.… if we choose
to go within, with patience, so we can see what arises
after the mud settles and the waters clear.
Thanks to all of you for your interest
and support in this work…your love of animals and healing….and
for being wonderful You!
